HONORS 1010 Reflection 1
Due Date: April , 11, 2013
Different. That is the the first word that comes to mind when thinking of UC. A different country, state and university I have not seen until a few days before orientation. Though this may seem daunting when one thinks about it, I always think of the word different as good rather than bad. And it turns out that UC has been just that, the good different. I do not see myself as a changed person since I have been here at UC but I feel as though that I have indeed grown.
This growth I think has been exhibited firstly through academics. As a high school student, I was a big procrastinator. I always left my work until the last minute and used the pressure to motivate me to finish the work. Now as a college student, I find myself putting immense pressure on myself to complete my work at least one day in advance of its due date.
Personally, I have found that I value people's perspectives more and more. I love learning about new cultures and people's views on life and compare them to my own. To pursue interactions with other people especially those of different cultures, I decided to join UC Cultural Connections. Through this organization, I learn about other people's cultures and ways of life as well as meet new people which is always a plus. I have also attended an International Mother Language Day event, Saudi coffee hour and a Turkish festival. By doing this, my horizons are broadened and I think the quality of my life is richer because of it. I also push myself more and more to get what I want. My drive to achieve my goals has increased dramatically and I think being in an environment like UC has contributed to that. I realize that many of my decisions now inside as well as outside of the classroom dictate my future and I am determined to make sure that that future stays bright.

HONORS 1010 Reflection 2
Due Date: April 18, 2013
The opportunities available to me here at UC and especially through the University Honors program are endless. Knowing this, I realize that in order to take full advantage of these opportunities, I have to make sure that I am actually aware of these opportunities. That is one of the first steps I will take as a UC honors student next year. I will make sure that I will find out all of the seminars, experiences and events that are happening during the year. I will probably do this by keeping up with honors listserv and paying close attention to the emails that offer opportunities to get involved on campus. The ones that pique my interest, I will make sure to try my best to make time for them and participate in some way, shape or form.
Being mindful and aware of these opportunities, especially those that are offered by the University Honors Program, I have decided to take an honors seminar this coming Fall semester. The seminar I decided to take is Exploring Community Engagement. I think that this seminar would be especially helpful for me because I love giving back to my community. Since I am not from Cincinnati and do not know the ways in which I can help the community, I feel that taking this course would allow me to get a firsthand look into the Cincinnati community as well as allow me to experience a seminar at the honors level.
Another step I will take next year to make the most of my UC experience is to step outside of my comfort zone. Armed with the knowledge of the opportunities that are at my fingertips, I will delve into activities that I may not normally do. I am involved in various organizations on campus such as Women in Leadership and Learning (WILL), UC Cultural Connections and M.A.P.S. I hold an executive position in UC Cultural Connections and I will make a special effort next year to make sure that everyone who I come in contact with knows about this organization. Stepping out of my comfort zone may be to fundraise for UC Cultural Connections or attending events that I have never heard of before like the Mainstreet Stride. Next year, I will be sure to make a special effort to ‘put myself out there’ and enjoy the ride.
